Bye-bye, CalPotNews; welcome to My California Cannabis

Like the headline says, welcome to My California Cannabis, the successor site to If things look a little bare-bones right now, it’s all good. There are quite a few blanks to fill in, but it’s always better to get a site up and running than it is to sweat the small stuff.

Why the change? Times have changed dramatically since I founded CalPotNews in 2009, and while it’s been a fun ride, it’s time to develop a more useful site that goes deeper than the daily headlines. There’s a huge lack of understanding among medical cannabis patients, public policy makers and law enforcement, and I hope to be able to help build bridges of communication between people from all walks of life. That’s a tall order, I realize, but the need has never been greater than it is right now.

California is undergoing tremendous change, with the state sitting on the sidelines as medical cannabis patients and providers do battle with both federal and local law enforcement. So while I’ll try to keep up with the latest news headlines, I’ll also try to provide some background context and analysis. It’s not easy to take the long view when you’re trying to figure out where you can plant next spring, granted, but we all have an equal responsibility to support meaningful, long-term reform measures.

If you formerly read, thanks for tagging along. My hope is to take the lessons I’ve learned over the past three years and build something that generates serious discussion among medical cannabis patients and activists. It’s easy to take pot shots, after all, but much work lies ahead for all those who support California cannabis. My goal is to make My California Cannabis a regular stop on that journey.
