About

My California Cannabis is the successor to CalPotNews.com, which was founded in 2009 as a news aggregate site. A lot has changed since 2009, in part because of the cannabis-legalization debate spurred by Proposition 19 in 2010. While that ballot measure didn’t pass, voters in Colorado and Washington state were able to capitalize on the national debate inspired by Prop. 19, with both states passing measures in November 2012 to legalize possession and sales of adult-use cannabis.

Here in California, the news about cannabis has been less encouraging, especially since U.S. Attorneys launched a coordinated campaign against medical cannabis dispensaries in 2011. Hundreds of collective-dispensaries have closed since then, although some survivors and new operators have shifted gears to mobile delivery services. Local bans on dispensaries and cultivation are widespread throughout most of the state. However, the Legislature (finally) passed the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act (MMRSA) in 2015, and voters soon will decide whether to approve the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA). Taken together, MMRSA and AUMA promise to dramatically change the landscape of cannabis regulation, both for businesses and consumers. My California Cannabis is designed to bring you timely news along with featured products and services from some of the best businesses in the industry.
